![]() But peace of mind, that is priceless.VLC Media Player is one of the best media players out there and it is available as a free download. You know, when the antivirus itself is pushing their crapware lol.Įven if you end up paying a few dollars more, for that there is always VISA. Those have next to not ads constantly trying to sell you one of their 10 other programs in their suite, that you don't really need anyway. I recommend using one that is made for and used by large businesses. But having no antivirus is still as insane a driving without putting on your car's safety belt on, though. Nowadays both Windows and main security suites do a LOT better job at protecting you, fortunately. It really was far west era of the internet. But I'm not surprised at all that so many less tech savvy people get scammed. Now I download only reputed stuff, from reputed safe websites. But that was to make me even more paranoid. I don't remember the name of that ugly piece of installer, though. EVEN with my anti-crap paranoia, I got really lucky. If I had just rebooted normally, one of the installed crap turned out to be some real nasty ransomware MBR virus. ![]() Good thing I cleaned immediately as that involved a Cleaner-driven reboot and Master Boot Record repair, too. ![]() Yup, even if you refused to install the actual app (if there ever was one!), the installer still tried to infect your PC anyway! That sadly took hours but the cleaner found, and then fortunately cleaned, LOTS of crap. Then I immediately did a FULL system virus check plus a "Deep cleaner scan". Needless to say, I immediately clicked the red X a second time and did NOT install any of that crap. As I discovered when I was just trying to exit that stupid crap scammy installer. Instead you had to click the red X in top right corner, typically normally for exiting the installer, to go to the next screen. Once when installing an app, the installer had a screen where even if you unchecked the "I'm a blind moron so yeah do install this obvious Crapware on my PC" checkbox, some small text indicated that if you clicked NEXT, you agreed to install the crapware anyway!įacepalm. I keep ignoring the update pop-up, so perhaps the fault is me & not the software. If for some reason there is no better option than VLC player or it's still your favorite media player then please tell me why, maybe I've been using it wrong all this years or I'm not fully appreciating/understanding all of what the VLC player can do. Hovering over the timeline brings up a small thumbnail/preview of video (like on Youtube). ![]()
